The crow has long been a symbol for the fall season and Halloween holiday. Along with its Corvidae companion, the raven, the crow often finds itself associated with Halloween because of its cunning association of consuming carrion. A “murder of crows” is often found sitting on the shoulders of scarecrows protecting harvest vegetables. Fortunately, time has turned the negative and superstitious symbol associated with the bird into a friendly, spiritual mascot. This year, we’re pleased to be introducing a new chalkware figure to our Fall and Halloween collection: The Black Crow. Halloween Black Crow, VFA Nr. 17087 Dressed in smart formal wear and a top hat adorned with a witch and jack o’lantern, this spectacle wearing bird is detailed with both glitter and beading. Painted in festive colors, this black crow is perched over fallen leaves as if patiently waiting for his companions to return from an All Hallows’ Eve flight. This is one of two new chalkware pieces introduced as part of the 2017 catalog.
