While Vaillancourt Folk Art began its business through sales directly to consumers at artisan folk art fairs around the country, it was a few short years later that the company entered into the wholesale trade. Notably, in 1996 Nordstrom approached the small Massachusetts studio with an interest in carrying an exclusive line of ornaments—which was the beginning of the mouth-blown German (now Polish) glass ornaments. Since then, department stores have played an important role in wholesale distribution having designed exclusive designs for stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, and more. While most of these department stores were focused in metropolitan areas like, New York City, Dallas, and Chicago, the rural markets have seen incredible growth in recent years.
