Sutton, MA — Deborah O’Connor, an accomplished artist who specializes in the art of cutting silhouettes will be appearing at Vaillancourt Folk Art in Sutton on Saturday November 13th from 10 am to 4 pm. Using just a tiny pair of scissors Ms. O’Connor is able to create a wonderful profile portrait of her subjects. Silhouettes have been a popular form of portraiture since the 18th century. They were most popular in America from 1790 to 1840. With the invention of the camera, cut silhouettes went out of fashion. However the tradition has continued and today this unique art form has had a resurgence of popularity. The silhouettes are $35.00 per cutting and additional cuttings of the subject are $15.00, with mattes and frames available at additional cost.
