From Roots to Ritual

As we turn the page from our 40th anniversary year, we are proud to introduce the 2025 Vaillancourt Chalkware and Ornament Collection—a collection that resonates with echoes of the past while looking ahead with reverence and renewed inspiration. Rooted in tradition, history, and timeless craftsmanship, this year’s collection draws upon nearly five decades of artistry and the enduring values that shaped both our company and our culture.

It was during America’s Bicentennial in 1976 that Judi Vaillancourt first began envisioning how hand-painted chalkware could become a storytelling medium—one that would interpret the rich tapestry of holiday customs through a historical lens. That vision has guided our work ever since, with Judi’s artistic interpretations often paying homage to the old-world charm of German Christmas markets and the enduring folklore of Saint Nicholas. In recent years, that legacy has expanded through collaborative designs with her son, Luke M. Vaillancourt, ensuring that the Vaillancourt tradition remains both rooted and evolving.

This year, as the nation begins its approach toward the Semiquincentennial in 2026, we are reminded of the significance of honoring history—not only through national milestones, but through the personal traditions that shape each holiday season. It is in that spirit that we are pleased to introduce the 2025 Limited Edition German Night Christmas Market Santa, a highlight of this year’s collection.

This hand-painted chalkware piece captures the enchanting spirit of Germany’s Christkindlesmarkts, inspired by Judi and Gary Vaillancourt’s bi-annual visits to the traditional Bavarian markets. There, amidst candlelit stalls, wooden toys, spiced confections, and the glow of Moravian stars, the magic of Christmas is tangible. The Santa’s richly detailed coat depicts the night sky that hovers above these festive gatherings, while a tree adorned with stars stands as a symbol of protection over the market—a quiet nod to the comfort of tradition and community. In this piece, as in all our work, we celebrate the intersection of fine art, memory, and storytelling through traditional methods in our Sutton, Massachusetts studios.

Since 1984, we’ve delighted in sharing our Chalkware collection through a printed catalog—what began as a simple format has grown into an annual expression of our deep belief in the joy of Christmas and the power of meaningful objects. Whether you’re a lifelong collector or discovering our work for the first time, we invite you to explore pieces that carry the spirit of history and the warmth of holiday traditions.

From our family to yours, may this year’s collection offer a sense of continuity and comfort—an echo of heritage to cherish now and for years to come.
