First introduced in 1997, when our figural ornaments were still produced in Germany, the Halloween Black Cat was among the earliest Halloween designs in the Vaillancourt ornament collection, and this season, in celebration of our first Edgar Allan Poe performance at Blaxton Hall, we re-created the original mould and brought it back through our Polish studios. The cat is the ornament itself: arched and alert, tail raised, its paws wrapping the sphere beneath it as though it had just landed there, and within that embrace a Halloween night unfolds, with a grinning jack-o’-lantern, a bare tree against a moonlit sky, and on the reverse, the picket fence it has clearly just cleared. Mouth-blown and hand-painted in Poland, with yellow eyes and a flash of pink mouth the only bright notes against the feathered black coat, it is both a reissue and a first for collectors, a design that bridges the German and Polish chapters of our ornament history and offers a second chance at a piece that was never easy to find.
