Two of the season’s favorite characters—jolly old St. Nick and an adorable little snowman—come together in one charming collectible figure. This classic Santa is dressed in his traditional red coat and hat, lined with white fur. The snowman wears a colonial-inspired tricorn hat. The tricorn or “cocked” hat was popular during the 18th century, falling out of style by 1800. At the peak of its popularity, the tricorn was worn as civilian dress and as part of military and naval uniforms. Though Santa Claus did not become part of New World Christmas traditions until the 19th century, this Santa figurine takes artistic license to cheerfully honor St. Nick. Many examples of chalkware and Santa chocolate molds can be found in the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation collections. This jolly fellow is ready to share these traditions with you.
