Celebrate the season with a traditional German Christmas Market in the quintessential New England town of Sutton!

As Vaillancourt Folk Art celebrates 35 years of traditions, we’re pleased to present our first retail show that will feature the industries most respected and detailed artists. When Vaillancourt Folk Art first began their business, it was through exhibiting at Artisan shows around the country. This Christkindlesmarkt & Artisan Show is a tip of the hat to our formidable years, while being able to offer some of the highest quality American Artists within a space decorated to resemble the German Christmas markets. While the Vaillancourt Retail Gallery will import exceptionally high quality German products, the main event is the Mass Live sponsored Artisan Retail Stalls, built to house some of America’s finest craftspeople, including:

Dad’s Follies Antique Chocolate Molds

(Gibsonville, North Carolina)

Dad’s Follies is the oldest and largest antique dealer specializing in antique metal chocolate moulds in the world. For over 45 years Dad’s Follies has been specializing in buying and selling antique metal chocolate and pewter ice cream moulds and are a family owned company that is currently in its second generation of Mould Experts. They currently exhibit at private shows and offer their moulds online.

Greg and Mary Shooner Redware

(Oregonia, Ohio)

Continuing the traditions of American potters dating to 1630, Greg Shooner and Mary Spellmire-Shooner re-create authentic redware pottery at their Oregonia, Ohio studio. Greg and Mary use their years of pottery experience to make a ware that is unrivaled in its interpretation of rare antiques. They work alone, with a passionate commitment to quality and artistic control. A lifelong interest in art led them separately to pottery, then together to the study of redware.

Sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm, they have lectured and demonstrated often, including the “American Ceramics Conference” at the Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, Delaware, the “Dishcamp” conference at Eastfield Village in East Nassau, New York as well as William and Mary College and New York University. The Shooners also share the unique beauty of their work, their pieces are represented in museum collections as far away as Stoke-on Trent in England to the permanent collection of the White House in Washington D.C. and Camp David.

Pamela Dalton Scherenschnitte

(Ghent, New York)

Pamela Dalton has been perfecting the craft of Scherenschnitte ever since discovering the craft in Europe many years ago. What began as a hobby eventually evolved into a full time career. Now, decades later, collectors world wide enjoy her intricate paper creations. In addition, her work has illustrated numerous children’s books. This includes “Brother Sun, Sister Moon” chosen by the New York Times as one of the ten most beautifully illustrated children’s books of 2011.

Cut from a single piece of paper , her compositions incorporate traditional themes from the early 19th century . Nautical and patriotic images, scenes from rural life, as well as Biblical passages are favorites.

As seen in the tradition of papercuts from the Pennsylvania German region, many pieces are illuminated with color. Others remain unpainted, although they are “antiqued” to replicate the look of 19th century paper.

Her work can be found in numerous galleries and museum shops and is available at select artisan events.
Pamela has lived in the village of Harlemville, New York, for nearly 40 years, a “town with more cows than people.”She operates a studio near her home, accompanied by two butterscotch tomcats.

Stenciled Floorcloths by Michele

Michele Hollick has been stenciling for more than 30 years. What started as a simple “kitchen table” hobby, blossomed into a full time business for her. She started making floorcloths when she became interested in Colonial-era furnishings and accessories. Michele has the distinction of being a Certified Stenciler through the International Group Stencil Artisans League, Inc. Less than 100 people world-wide have passes this difficult test. Some of her best classes have been at the annual Stencil Artisans League Convention, the Stencil Decorative Artists Guild Convention, Sanborn Mills Farm, the League of NH Sandwich Gallery, as well as various shops throughout the Northeast.

Will Moses

(Eagle Bridge, New York)

As a fourth generation member of the renowned Moses family, painting is a natural tradition for Will, who began painting when he was four years old. Encouraged by his grandfather, a well-known folk painter in his own right, young Will was allowed to experiment freely with paints. Forrest K. Moses was totally committed to self-expression and passed this freedom of spirit along to his young grandson. Stimulated by his grandfather’s confident approach, Will developed his own unique style of Americana. Today, Will continues to carry on the family tradition. Although his style is reminiscent of that of his celebrated great-grandmother, it is more complex and sophisticated.

In addition to the Mass Live sponsored Artisan Retail Stalls, Vaillancourt’s production studio will be transformed to an intimate indoor marketplace with The Queen’s Cups selling gingerbread and Christmas cookies and sponsored vendors showing their Christmas spirit. Outdoors, under an open sided tent, the Food & Beverage Pavilion will be decorated with live Christmas trees while the smells of Stillman Quality Meats‘ German Sausages mingles through the air with traditional German pastries—Apfelstrudel, Peffernuesse, Baumkuchen, Spekulatius, Hazelnut Corners, and Schupfnudeln—sold by Fraulein’s Bakery. In addition to food available for sale, there will be a selection of fine Christmas beers, the 2019 limited edition Vaillancourt Christmas Wine, and a German imported glühwein for sale—limited quantities of the glühwein collector’s mug will be available to Friday’s VIP admission!

Trying to create a new tradition for visitors near and far, Vaillancourt urges all out of town guests to book their rooms at the Christkindlesmarkt’s official hotel sponsor, the Beechwood Hotel. A convenient 15-minute drive, the Beechwood Hotel is the region’s only AAA Four Diamond rated hotel and situated in the city of Worcester. With beautiful rooms, exceptional service, and award winning bar and restaurant, Beechwood Hotel is central to all area attractions and amenities. Friday VIP Christkindlesmarkt  5:00pm — 9:00pm

Friday evening’s sold out session is exclusive to VIP ticket holders starting at 5:00pm and includes one complimentary glühwein collectors mug along with a tasting of the Christmas beverage (with valid form of 21+ identification). Friday’s event ends at 9:00pm. VIP ticket holders will be re-admitted anytime on Saturday with ticket or wrist band. Glühwein refills are available to attendees using their mug both Friday and Saturday. Ticket (printed or digital) must be present to be granted admission. (Only tickets sold online, in advance, are eligible for the complimentary mug and tasting. Guests holding a special Vendor Invitational Voucher will be guaranteed at-door ticket sales for all sessions.)

Saturday Christkindlesmarkt Sessions: 10:00am, 1:00pm, 3:00pm, & 5:00pm — 8:00pm

Opening at 10:00 AM through 8:00 PM there will be several sessions of the Saturday market to ensure a comfortable shopping environment. Each session will include full access to the Artisan Retail Stalls, Food & Beverage Pavilion, and Vaillancourt Retail Gallery. Ticket (printed or digital) must be present to be granted admission. Sorry, no re-admission. Guests holding a special Vendor Invitational Voucher will be guaranteed at-door ticket sales for all sessions.

A Note To Those Attending:

The Christkindlesmarkt is taking place at Vaillancourt Folk Art (9 Main Street) in Sutton. There is handicap parking located at the front for those with a handicap placard. Limited self parking is reserved across the street, at the Sutton Cemetery Department building and Puckihuddle Preschool. You can also park behind the Manchaug Mills and use the sidewalk (Whitins Road to Main Street) to enter the market. Complimentary Valet Parking, sponsored by Zeibart of Shrewsbury, managed by Valet Park of America, is offered to take the stress out of parking and walking. As with following the tradition of the German Christmas Markets, a portion of this event is outdoors! Please plan on dressing warmly to enjoy the outdoor ambiance. There will be a self-check coat check immediately indoors so you may safely hang your coat to enjoy the indoor market spaces.

To expedite entry, please bring your ticket (printed or digital) and arrive on the day and time listed on your ticket. For those who have misplaced their tickets, we will have a master guest list. Those looking to enjoy the cash bar, please have your 21+ identification ready before entry.

Fine Print: Unless sold out, tickets will be available at the door. Printed, or digital ticket is required for admission. No re-admission, unless ticket holder has VIP ticket and valid identification at time of entry. 21+ identification required for consumption. The event will take place regardless the weather and all sales are final once processed. 

All ticket sales are final. We are unable to grant refunds or exchanges once order is placed online. Please note that the retail store will be open normal hours from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm and will re-open for the event at 5:00 pm.
