Red American Christmas Series Gingerbread Father Christmas (Studio Edition) (Vault)

This is a rare artist proof created for the second American Christmas Series, a collaboration between Vaillancourt, Byers’ Choice, and Lynn Haney. First introduced in 2007, the project brought together three American Christmas studios to create complementary works around a shared theme. Following its success, the series returned in 2008 with a gingerbread theme, and this piece became an important early expression of that collection.

Painted in rich Christmas red and warm gingerbread tones, Santa carries a snow-covered tree and lantern while delicate white decoration recalls piped icing, with holly, hearts, and ornamental detailing completing the confectionery-inspired design. Beyond its rarity as an artist proof, VFA Nr. 2008-66 is especially significant because it helped establish the artistic direction for what would become Judi Vaillancourt’s popular Gingerbread Series, making it a meaningful work for collectors interested in both the American Christmas Series and the evolution of Vaillancourt’s gingerbread designs.
