Dedushka Moroz or Grandfather Frost, with his very long beard ,was introduced during the reign of the Czars He drove a horse drawn sleigh called a Troika and brought gifts at Christmas to children. After the revolution, the communists replaced Christmas with a New Year’s Day celebration. Grandfather Frost, accompanied by the Snow Maiden brought gifts to children at public events. Today the tradition of Grandfather Frost continues.
