Nashville Christmas: Fireside Stories (1PM)

This Christmas season, we invite you inside the intimate setting of Blaxton Hall for the debut of our new singer-songwriter series, Nashville Christmas: Fireside Stories. For two special performances, acclaimed Nashville songwriter James T. Slater will join Massachusetts singer-songwriter Sam James for an afternoon and evening of live music, personal stories, and conversation.

A two-time Grammy-nominated, piano-playing singer-songwriter of Bolivian American descent, James T. Slater has written songs recorded by some of the most recognized voices in music, including Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Luke Combs, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Martina McBride, Alabama, Lady A, and Keith Urban.

His celebrated works include Martina McBride’s “In My Daughter’s Eyes,” Jamey Johnson’s “The High Cost of Living,” and Keith Urban’s hit single “God Whispered Your Name.” He has also written Kenny Chesney’s “Wasted” and “Guys Named Captain,” Tim McGraw’s “God Moves the Pen,” and songs recorded by Old Dominion, Hootie & the Blowfish, and many others. His music reflects a remarkable life and career shaped by Nashville, Central America, Europe, Key West, and years of performing around the world.

Rather than a traditional concert, Fireside Stories will offer guests the opportunity to experience the music as it was originally created. James and Sam will perform their songs in an intimate acoustic setting while sharing the inspiration, memories, and creative process behind them. Their conversation will also explore the Christmas traditions that have shaped their lives, with the possibility of a Christmas song or two woven into each performance.

Sam James will serve as emcee and co-host, bringing his own perspective as a Massachusetts-born performer and songwriter. From years spent playing throughout New England to building an audience of more than one million followers across social media, Sam has developed a career rooted in authenticity, perseverance, and connection. He has performed on national television, appeared at major music festivals, and collaborated with artists including Dolly Parton, Bebe Rexha, Lee Brice, and Galantis.

Surrounded by the historic character and Christmas warmth of Vaillancourt Folk Art, guests will enjoy an unusually personal encounter with two gifted songwriters as they share the stories behind their music and the traditions that bring meaning to the season.
