The Peaceable Kingdom Santa combines two versions of works by American artist, Edward Hicks. A Quaker minister and painter from Langhorne, PA, Hicks completed 62 versions of the Peaceable Kingdom. For this piece, the 1830-1832 version of Peaceable Kingdom is reproduced, and decoupaged, around this piece’s coat and on the back, below his hood, you see a decoupaged version of A Peaceable Kingdom with Quakers Bearing Banners painted 1829-1830 where a gathering of Quakers are seen with swirling banners bearing messages of peace. Originally designed for Early American Life magazine.
