Though Santa Claus did not become part of New World Christmas traditions until the 19th century, this Santa figurine takes artistic license and cheerfully wears clothing featuring favorite Historic Area places along Duke of Gloucester Street. When Virginia’s General Assembly created Williamsburg in 1699, it ordered that its main street “in honor of his Highness William Duke of Gloucester shall for ever hereafter be called and knowne by the Name of Duke of Gloucester Street.” For Historic Area visitors, a daily stroll down Duke of Gloucester Street (also affectionately known as DOG Street) is the highlight of each stay. Many examples of chalkware and Santa chocolate molds can be found in the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation collections. Add this charming Santa to your current collection or give one to a friend to start a new tradition.

Designed exclusively for Colonial Williamsburg, hand-crafted and meticulously hand-painted in the USA. Signed “Vaillancourt” and dated.
