Description

5.4 lbs 4 × 4 × 17 in
Chalkware Made in United States
Seasons: Winter
Year Issued: 2003 at $400.00 for Colonial Williamsburg

Proudly adapted from a white pine sculpture credited to Charles Robb (1855-1904). Today, the original is in the collection of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum. For more than 40 years, though, Santa’s kindly grin greeted a Lutheran congregation in New York City—Robb’s hometown. (His pack held programs, sermons, and notices of interest.) Our grand chalkware figure is beautifully hand-painted and has a crackle glaze. He carries fruit in one pocket and a bright-eyed possum in the other. “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” is inscribed on his pack. Designed exclusively for Colonial Williamsburg, hand-crafted and meticulously hand-painted in the USA. Signed “Vaillancourt” and dated.
