Creamware

November 23, 2009

Creamware was originally made in Hunslet, England, around 1770, and was then, also called Creamware.

Creamware is a type of Earthenware, made from white Cornish clay, combined with a translucent glaze to produce its characteristic pale cream color. Creamware was perfect for making the elegant and highly decorative tableware in demand in the Georgian age. Although it was also made by many other companies, the commercial success and outstanding quality of the Leeds product meant that in time all Creamware came to be popularly known as “Leedsware”. This Creamware was made at Stoke on Trent, England by the Hartley Greens Company. The company has existed since 1770.

Classical Christmas
Classical Christmas is English Creamware made by Hartley Greens, specifically for Vaillancourt Folk Art. The entire line is designed by Judi Vaillancourt, but based upon antique shapes and themed specifically for the Holidays.

Creamware is the perfect dinner setting—it is classy without being too formal. With Judi’s designers, it is always the perfect time to complete your own setting or to give a gift for those looking to start their own dinnerware set.

Collectors Quest interview with Luke M. Vaillancourt

September 8, 2009

The best thing for any collector to do is to find a piece that speaks to them. Vaillancourt’s goal is to create 1 piece that can be given to a loved one, or close friend, that will be cherished and passed down to generations. We attempt to create christmas traditions, and are happy to be included in hundreds of families traditions. It is the most satisfying thing to know that on Christmas morning (or any day) many loved ones are opening their Vaillancourt Chalkware as their main Christmas gift.

Vaillancourt Chalkware featured on about.com

August 26, 2009

For over twenty five years, the Vaillancourt family has been making Santas. The recipe is simple, take an historic collection of chocolate moulds, add an apparent love of the holidays, involve the entire family and the results are apparent. Quality and historically correct chalkware Santas created in America by masters painters.

Judi Vaillancourt received a small collection of antique candy molds (three pieces!) and decided to play a bit with them. She tried using them to make chocolate Santas, as well as beeswax Santas. She then settled on using a liquid chalk material, coined by them as “contemporary chalkware*”. The Santas were a success when she showed them — getting orders for 30 pieces. The next time the order was for 100 pieces! Pretty soon it wasn’t a hobby, but a full-time business. About that time husband Gary’s work contract was up and he joined the business. Son Luke joined the family business in August of 2007 as the Director of Digital Marketing.
