A Christmas Carol
A New Holiday Tradition: Dickens by Dickens
Each winter, hundreds of thousands of families integrate Dickens’ masterpiece, A Christmas Carol, into their holiday traditions. Although there are countless versions—literary devices, stage adaptations, and full-length feature films—we are pleased to offer a unique experience that fits Vaillancourt’s vision of tradition: Dickens by Dickens.
Charles Dickens made two visits to the United States, 1848 and 1868 (which include a stop at Worcester’s Mechanics Hall), during these trips he performed readings of his classical masterpiece. Although we aren’t able to bring Charles back to life, we are pleased that his great-great grandson, Gerald Charles Dickens, has decided to make this tradition live on with a theatrical, one-man performance of A Christmas Carol.
Mr. Dickens adopts different voices, expressions and mannerisms to portray each of the story’s twenty-six characters in this acclaimed one-man show. Brought to the United States each year by American Christmas company, Byers’ Choice, Dickens kicks off his American tour each year since 2009 at Vaillancourt Folk Art’s Blaxton Hall theatre.
Each performance, approximately one hour and twenty minutes, is not recommended for children under the age of 8 years old. After each performance Dickens is available to sign any of the products offered at the Vaillancourt Gallery.
Seeing Dickens’ work, performed by Dickens, is truly a one of a kind tradition to remember forever. Join us in starting the holiday season with Gerald Charles Dickens performing A Christmas Carol.
